Throngs of people crowded Orlando’s Magic Kingdom theme park to witness the log flume-style attraction’s final runnings on January 23, decked in all manner of Splash Mountain merchandise and ready to wait upwards of four hours for one last soggy ride. Disney has not indicated a timeline for the makeover, which will focus on “The Princess and the Frog’s” Princess Tiana and Louis.Walt Disney World’s iconic Splash Mountain ride is officially closed, but hardcore Disney fans are going to creative lengths to keep pieces of the attraction forever. If you have very young children you might want to sit this one out.īy the way, Disney announced in 2020 that it would be replacing the attraction’s theme with the company’s more recent animated film, “The Princess and the Frog.” The 1946 live action and animated "Song of the South,” which is based on “Uncle Remus” stories, is set in in the Reconstruction-era American south and features characters and depictions that are deemed racist and offensive. However, there are a couple of false drops along the route which add to the thrills, and the final drop is quite a humdinger at 50 feet. Themed with characters from the controversial 1946 film "Song of the South," most of the ride is tame. Splash Mountain marries the classic log flume ride with an animatronics-filled dark ride. ![]()
